standard Dr Bernard Manyena on resilience

Dr Bernard Manyena explains the concept of resilience and the importance of enhancing the resilience of communities vulnerable to disaster. Dr Manyena is based at the Humanitarian and Conflict Institute, University of Machester and has written widely on the role of resilience in disaster recovery. He gave a seminar at IHRR, ‘Resilience for the people… but where are the people?‘, arguing that agendas for resilience have been much less focused on the local communities themselves. He suggests a framework to guide resilience-informed policy by focusing on the context, the nature of risk, community capacities to deal with risk, the principles and resilience outcomes.
